Government Affairs Business Advocacy & Action Committee & The Wyoming Prosperity Project
The Wyoming Chamber Partnership supports a core set of principles that are used to evaluate public policies, and their effect on general business, at the local, state and national level of legislative and regulatory making policy bodies.
Our principles are based on the tenant that business and its prosperity are the foundation of our country and that entrepreneurialism fosters the American Dream. Capitalism and free enterprise are the bedrock of a secure economy. A strong nation, state and community exist through a strong military, tax policy that is not discriminative, an infrastructure – physical and social – that meets the local community needs for the present and the future, an education system that allows personal advancement and achievement and the availability and access to health care.
Issues effecting the business environment that the Wyoming Chamber Partnership will support:
Taxation and Regulation:
- Implementation of tax policies that are balanced and fair to all classes
- Balanced budget at all levels of government
- Reduction of regulatory burdens and increased government accountability
- Streamlining of permitting and licensing processes
- Policies that do not diminish right-of-way access
- Continued support of vendor compensation for acting as the state’s sales tax collector
- Repeal of redundant and duplicative regulation at the state, local and national level
- Cost effective free market options for workers compensation coverage
- Protection from frivolous lawsuits in the employment and tort arena
Transportation and Infrastructure:
- Comprehensive planning and funding for development which encourages private sector investment and expansion
- Encouragement of broadband deployment to diversify our business mix
- The increased utilization of air service in and out of Wyoming by business, government and tourism travelers and support of Air Enhancement funding
- Maintaining local infrastructure in a quality condition that is appealing for business recruitment and expansion
- Affordable and available access to health care and affordable health care coverage for businesses and their employees
- Increase in workforce development programs at the state and local level with emphasis on entities focused on training entry and mid-level skilled employees
- Least cost, least risk utilities for business and consumer needs
- Business creation, recruitment, retention and expansion:
- Incentive programs that benefit existing businesses to expand and innovate
- Incentive programs that aid in recruiting new business
- Policies to encourage private industry growth and investment
- Efforts to curb government competition with the private sector
- Value additions to existing businesses through strategic recruitment and leveraging
- Ensure that Wyoming maintains a significant part of our countries security through a strong and enhanced military community
- Research and evaluation of governmental structures that would streamline government efficiency
Tourism:
- The Tourism industry in Wyoming generates $2.5 billion dollars a year into our local economies and creates 30,000 jobs annually; as such we support the requested funding levels from the Wyoming Office of Tourism and look to increase this level when appropriate.
- Ensure support for the Film Industry Financial Incentive Program (FIFI) in order for Wyoming to compete with other states for short and long-term revenue generated by films
- Support funding that promotes and enhances recreational access
- Support funding for sustaining local community culture and arts, history and heritage, and natural resources
- The creation of the State Tourism Board with its private sector representation has led to a more unified promotional effort for tourism; we support the continued existence of this board and its authority.
- Local lodging tax is currently collected at a rate of 1-4% by law the local entity is responsible for spending the tax on tourism promotion. As this is a tax we as residents typically do not pay, we support the current Lodging tax law as is and do not support a statewide lodging tax.
